Many people are self conscious about their teeth when they smile. They close
their mouth in photos and often raise their hand in front of their face to hide
their teeth.
Scientists have pinpointed more than 50 types of smiles, and
their research suggests that the sincerest smile of all is known as the Duchenne
smile--a smile that pushes up into the eyes. The reason it's more genuine is
because the muscles needed to smile with our eyes are involuntary; they only
become engaged in an authentic smile, not in a "courtesy" smile. Since you can't
force a genuine smile (after all, that's what makes them genuine!) I will try to
share with you in this article one of the ways you can smile from within.
All
of us would like to have a good, confident smile but if you are not born with
it, what can you do? If your teeth stop you from smiling and feeling confident
then read on ?there are ways of getting a great smile even if you were not born
with it.
If you're preoccupied with the color or direction of your teeth,
the prominence of your gums, the smell of your breath...you might subconsciously
stifle your smile because you feel embarrassed. There are treatments that can
help, like whitening your teeth, getting rid of bad breath, straightening your
teeth or having porcelain veneers.
INVISABLE BRACES
There are many
reasons why people have uneven teeth. For many people, the adult teeth simply do
not grow in a straight line. As children and teenagers, not all of us had access
to dental health. Many people miss the opportunity to have braces in childhood.
By adulthood, their dental problems are quite severe, not just looking
unattractive, sometimes also causing headaches, becoming infected and just plain
uncomfortable.
Straightening your teeth provides more benefits than just
a beautiful smile. Correcting teeth which are growing incorrectly prevents
further dental problems down the line. When one tooth is out of position, it
often pushes other teeth out of position also. Properly aligned teeth less
likely to decay or become infected or need fillings. They are easier for the
dentist to clean and remove plaque from, which is another way of preventing
damage.
Probably the most simple and affordable way of correcting misaligned
teeth is adult braces. If your teeth misalignment is not severe; you may simply
be able to be fitted for clear braces which are difficult to spot when worn. In
the past there may have been some embarrassment about wearing braces but now.
Not only is it more common, but chances are most of your friends and family
won't even notice you have them on - well not until they discover you newly
straightened teeth!
PORCELAIN VENEERS
While braces can help teeth that
are misaligned at the gum, if your teeth have gaps or chips you may wish to
consider other forms of teeth alignment. If at the gum line, your teeth are in
line, but they are uneven at the base, you may wish to consider porcelain
veneers. This is where your natural tooth is ground down by the dentist and
capped with a veneer which matches in both size and color with the rest of your
teeth or you can chose the colour and shape of teeth that you prefer. It takes
4-5 visits ,your first visit will be an initial consultation where your dentist
will discuss in detail what you don抰 like about your smile, then it will be
followed by an appointment where impressions and x-rays will be taken followed
by a third appointment to discuss the treatment plan with you. Then comes the
big day where your teeth are prepared and have a trial smile which you keep for
some time while the final veneers are prepared for you. These would be cemented
on at the final appointment.
